The Magic of Accountability & Follow Through

Hello my sweet community,

A lot has been landing for me as summer comes to a close. New cycles. New processes. You too?

This is the first year that Sydney will not be heading back to school (hello GAP YEAR). I never realized how much my child's schedule regulated mine. And now without the ritual of her returning to a new year of learning, I'm sitting here thinking, what am I creating for myself?

ASK YOURSELF... WHAT AM I CREATING FOR MYSELF?

It's not uncommon to get stuck in default and automation AKA dissociation. You wake up, have your morning cup of (fill in the blank, for me, it's CACAO), and then you start your day.

Ever since I returned from Portland, OR, life has been a whirlwind. Believe it or not, the most grounding and regulating thing in my life now and for the longest time, has been my 1:1 sessions with clients.

I love the container of 1:1 work. I've had 20 years to hone my skills and I gotta say that it's been quite the journey. One of the biggest learning lessons of all-time has been ATTUNEMENT.

And recently it's been blowing my mind realizing how much presence and intention is required for me to deliver my best for each session. Some times I'll fall short, yet most times this year, I'm proud to say that I've delivered amazing, profound work for clients.

Let me rephrase that... WE have created it TOGETHER.

AND funny enough, since I'm not your traditional therapist, I often DON'T GET THE VERBAL VALIDATION for the healing that comes after our sessions. And you know what?

It's OK. It's by design. Because I'm simply facilitating your unique process that YOU take credit for because YES, it's your inner work.

If I was sitting here being bitter about not being recognized, I would understand that I was sitting with a very deep, childhood wound of not being seen, not being heard.

In an amazingly deep session with my dance friend Rivka who practices a modality called Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT), we touched on this wound. And we unpacked and somatically processed all the emotions and untrue stories that I was believing, causing me unnecessary inner turmoil.

What's so ironic about this is that Rivka is NOT a licensed therapist yet she's take me into some of the most deeply therapeutic and healing work I've ever done. And I love it. I'm so extremely grateful for all of it: a chance meeting of beautiful souls, a slow unfolding of cherished friendship, and now we're able to trade services in a very healthy, ethically sound way.

We're navigating a dual relationship.

We're both friends and clients of one another's work.

Sometimes dual relationships are easy and other times they're more complex.

Does my share remind you of something that you're navigating in your life right now?

If you'd like help unpacking the relational energetics of this dynamic, don't miss out on my free Open Office Hour tomorrow! Sign up here if you like or show up at noon on Aug 28.

SIDE NOTE: I'm focused on refining my facilitation skills, so currently I'm seeking out consultation for my Somatic EMDR work with psychotherapist, Josie Dove, one of the instructors of my program with Embody Lab and I'm also following up with my dance facilitation mentor, Sylvie Minot to discuss group work.

PLUS... I'm researching grief facilitator trainings so I can effectively and responsibly hold healing containers with depth & integrity. YAY!

Shout out to my loyal clients who have been so, so, so supportive of my efforts to develop a fully booked private practice. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY & FAITH IN ME!

I love you all! See you online, in sessions, on the dance floor, and in meditative states (SEE UPCOMING EVENTS HERE)!

Hello my party peoples! I’m headed to one of my most favorite places in the world… yes, you either love it or hate it… NYC! To me, NYC feels like the ultimate playground for infinite possibilities. I sometimes wonder if I’m meant to live there and then realize the allure of a visit vs. making a home are two completely different energies or are they?! I remember choosing DC over NYC for college because DC wasn’t too overwhelming and now that I’ve spent decades expanding my nervous system...

Hello my beautiful community! SO MUCH has been landing for me and I can't wait to share the latest news, updates, and insights. :) This topic of self-abandonment is a HUGE ONE if you've ever left a long-term relationship. You look back and are astonished that you completely lost yourself in this other person and WHY? What caused you to go unconscious? Was it die-hard people-pleasing behaviors? Was it guilt? Was it dissociation? Disconnect from self? Inability to let go of a dying dream? ALL...
